Ukraine invited an Israeli delegation to commemorate the victims of Babyn Yar
Ukraine and Israel have begun preparations for the 85th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy. The Ukrainian side has invited an Israeli delegation to participate in the commemorative events.
During a visit to Jerusalem, Olga Vasilevska-Smaglyuk, co-chair of the Verkhovna Rada’s parliamentary group on interparliamentary relations with the State of Israel, met with Knesset Deputy Speaker Yevhen Sova.
The parties discussed further cooperation and preparations for events dedicated to honoring the memory of the victims of one of the most tragic chapters of World War II.
One of the main topics of the talks was the preparation for the 85th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy, which will be commemorated in Ukraine this fall. The Ukrainian side invited the Israeli delegation to participate in the commemorative events.
The parties also agreed to hold the next meeting of the Ukrainian-Israeli Intergovernmental Commission in early October, during which they plan to discuss the development of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Special attention was paid during the meeting to the problems faced by Ukrainian citizens in Israel. In particular, the Ukrainian side raised the issue of repeated denials of entry to Ukrainians traveling to visit relatives who are in Israel under temporary protection.
In addition, Kyiv emphasized the importance of including Israel on the list of countries whose citizens will be eligible for multiple citizenship in Ukraine once the relevant law comes into effect.
During the talks, the parties also discussed preparations for the annual pilgrimage of Bratslav Hasidim to Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine amid Russian aggression.
At the same time, the Israeli side raised the issue of Ukraine’s voting at the United Nations on resolutions concerning Israel. The parties agreed to continue their dialogue on these issues.
