Six teenagers were arrested in Adelaide after chasing electric bike riders

In Adelaide, Australia, police detained six boys aged 14 to 16 after chasing a group of e-bike riders in the city center. According to ABC News Australia, a police helicopter was deployed during the operation.

Police reported that officers were called to West Terrace shortly after 11:30 a.m. following reports that the group was allegedly damaging cars, blocking traffic, and riding dangerously. Patrols tracked the group to Victoria Park. There, according to police, the riders nearly collided with several pedestrians and ran red lights.

A police helicopter was dispatched to search for the group. One teenager was detained shortly after 12:30 p.m. in a parking lot in Addy Place. Two more drivers were apprehended in the western suburbs of Adelaide, including one near Adelaide Airport after he abandoned his vehicle. Three others were detained at a residence in Melvern.

South Australian Police stated that the e-bikes, which were impounded for 28 days, may have been illegally modified. Under state law, such vehicles could be classified as motorcycles. The young men were charged with offenses including failing to stop when ordered, driving without a license, endangering life, property damage, and dangerous speeding. They were released on bail pending a hearing at the Adelaide Youth Court in October. Police are continuing to identify other possible participants in the incident.
