Rat poison found in HiPP baby food in Austria — BBC

Austrian police have issued a warning about a life-threatening danger due to the possible distribution of HiPP baby food contaminated with toxic substances.

This was reported by the BBC.

The cause for alarm was the discovery of rat poison in a jar of vegetable puree purchased in the city of Eisenstadt. Fortunately, the child did not have a chance to taste the product, as the parents noticed signs of tampering in time.

Experts determined that the jar of carrot-potato puree was likely tampered with intentionally. After laboratory analysis, the worst fears were confirmed—the jar contained a life-threatening dose of rat poison.

Law enforcement officials suspect that at least one more such deadly jar may be in circulation.

“If you have HiPP baby food with this label or notice any signs of tampering—do not open it. Do not consume this product under any circumstances,” the Burgenland police emphasized.

The investigation into this incident is linked to similar cases in neighboring Germany. It is reported that similar contaminated jars were also discovered and seized during inspections in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

This indicates a large-scale malicious campaign targeting children’s health in several European countries.

HiPP immediately recalled its entire line of jarred baby food from the Spar, Eurospar, Interspar, and Maximarkt supermarket chains in Austria.

The manufacturer warned consumers that consuming these products could be critically dangerous to life. At the same time, the incident did not affect the brand’s infant formula.
