In Estonia, 26 municipalities to join Rural Living Day — ERR News
Estonia will hold Rural Living Day on September 19, with 26 rural municipalities taking part this year. The event is intended to introduce people considering a move to the countryside to communities, employment opportunities and housing.
Event coordinator Reve Lambur noted that rural life is best suited to active people, as it offers an opportunity to create new initiatives and influence community life. According to her, people interested in living in rural areas should visit communities ready to welcome new residents.
Communities will be able to lead the organization
As ERR News reports, previously the municipality was meant to be the main point of contact during Rural Living Day. This year, local communities will also be able to take on a leading role in organizing the event. According to Lambur, this will enable communities that are actively seeking new residents to take part.

Another goal of the initiative is to show current residents their municipality and introduce the community to people who may have already moved there. It should also give local residents an opportunity to see the advantages of their municipality.
Benefits and challenges of rural life
Lambur said that the pandemic prompted many people to move to rural areas and remain there. According to her, they include families with children, for whom the safety of living in the countryside is an important factor.
At the same time, the coordinator pointed out that necessary services are not always located nearby, so families need a car. By visiting communities, potential new residents will be able to learn directly about the advantages and disadvantages of life in a specific area.
