Former Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi has died in Iran after being wounded in an airstrike, according to the AP
Former Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi died early Thursday morning, April 9, following injuries sustained in an airstrike last week.
This was reported by the Associated Press.
Kharrazi served as foreign minister during the presidency of reformist Mohammad Khatami and later became a foreign policy adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
He was considered an influential figure in Iranian diplomacy, combining reformist approaches with the country’s leadership line.
In 2022, in an interview with Al Jazeera, Harazi stated that Iran possesses “the technical means to produce a nuclear bomb, but Iran has not yet decided to build one,” a remark that caused concern among the international community.
In his last major interview with CNN in March, the politician spoke sharply about the prospects for diplomacy with the United States.
He stated that Iran is prepared for a protracted standoff and that the conflict can only end when the “economic pain” for both sides becomes critical.
As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington would cooperate with Iran after, in his words, a “productive regime change” in the country.
