In Spain, a child died after his father left him in the car

In Spain, a two-year-old girl died of heatstroke after her father accidentally left her in a car during a heatwave. According to preliminary reports, the child was left in the locked car for an extended period of time, which led to her death.

This was reported by The Guardian.

The tragedy occurred in the city of Brión on Wednesday, May 20.

That morning, the girl’s father had taken his older child to school and was supposed to take the younger one to daycare. The man was distracted by a phone call and went to work, leaving the child in the car.

The alarm was raised that same day when the girl’s mother went to pick her up from daycare at 3:00 p.m. and discovered that the child had not been dropped off. Realizing what had happened, the parents called an ambulance—the girl was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the incident, and the family is receiving psychological support.

Spain is currently bracing for the heat typically associated with midsummer. The National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) stated that “extremely high temperatures” could reach 36–38°C in some southern parts of the country. According to meteorologists, the heatwave is likely to last until the middle of next week.
