In Italy, a tour bus collided with a van; 6 people were killed
A major traffic accident involving a tour bus, a van, and three passenger cars occurred on the Terni–Rieti highway in Italy. Six people were killed in the accident, and another 34 were injured.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred on the stretch of road between the Colli sul Velino and Piediluco interchanges on the border between the regions of Lazio and Umbria. The tour bus, which was transporting passengers to the Marmore Falls, collided head-on with an oncoming van. After that, three more passenger cars were involved in the accident, one of which overturned.
According to local media reports, the fatalities include two drivers and two passengers from the bus, as well as two people who were in the van. It is reported that they were returning from a tour of the Terni area.
Three victims with severe injuries, one of whom later died, were transported by air ambulance to a hospital in Terni. Another patient in critical condition was admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.
The other 24 victims, including a child, were transported to medical facilities in Terni, Rieti, and Foligno. They sustained injuries of varying severity.
Law enforcement officials are currently identifying the victims and investigating the circumstances of the accident. In addition to medical care, psychological support was provided to those involved in the accident who did not sustain physical injuries.
The investigation is being conducted by the Terni traffic police with support from their colleagues in Rieti. The prosecutor’s office is examining the circumstances of the tragedy and deciding whether to open a criminal case under articles related to deaths resulting from a traffic accident.
