In Israel, Bennett says Netanyahu was warned before Hamas attack on October 7
In Israel, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was warned about Yahya Sinwar’s intentions 10 days before the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post, citing Bennett’s statement confirming a Haaretz publication.
According to Bennett, after receiving the warning, Netanyahu did not inform the heads of the security services, did not prepare Israel for the attack and did not convene the cabinet. The former prime minister also said he considers Netanyahu personally and directly responsible for the failure, which, in his assessment, led to the deaths of thousands of Israelis.
Statements by Lapid and Eisenkot
Yair Lapid also criticized Netanyahu’s actions. He said that three weeks before the attack, he had warned the prime minister at a press conference about such a possible development. Lapid claimed that Netanyahu had also been warned about the threat by Egypt, the Chief of the General Staff, the head of the Shin Bet internal security service and the head of military intelligence.

Lapid said the attack could have been prevented if Netanyahu had responded to the warnings he allegedly received. Former Israel Defense Forces Chief of the General Staff Gadi Eisenkot, for his part, called the new report further evidence of Netanyahu’s responsibility for the failures that preceded the attack.
Citing a morning report, Eisenkot said that Netanyahu had received a clear warning from the president of the United Arab Emirates regarding Sinwar’s intentions, but did not pass this information on to the leaders of the defense establishment.
Statement by MP Tropper
Knesset member Chili Tropper of the Yashar party also said that the warning was not passed on to the security services. According to him, it is not known for certain how events might have developed if Netanyahu had responded and the defense leadership had received the information.
