In Israel, the Let’s Meet in the Sukkah initiative brings people together — Jerusalem Post
In Israel, the organization “Protecting Our Common Home” has been running the “Let’s Meet in the Sukkah” initiative for the fourth consecutive year. It aims to bring together under the shared roof of a sukkah people with different views, worldviews and from different demographic groups for face-to-face communication.
Participants are invited to register their sukkahs to host guests or visit other sukkahs. The initiative provides for direct dialogue and acquaintance with different views.
Conversation despite disagreement
The goal of the project is not for participants to reach agreement, but for them to be able to communicate despite differences, the Jerusalem Post reports. One of the organization’s leaders, Eyal Gur, noted that ahead of elections in the country, topics that divide society will be raised more often.

According to him, election campaigns are based on differences and the presentation of different worldviews, which is part of democracy. At the same time, Gur stressed, it is important not to lose the ability to talk to one another. He added that the sukkah makes it possible to step away from screens and news headlines, meet a person with different beliefs in person, listen to them and express one’s own position.
Dedicated to those killed and a missing woman
The initiative was dedicated to Moshe Ohion and his son Eliad, who were killed during the October 7 attack in Ofakim. The day before the attack, they took part in the project.
Among the sukkahs joining the initiative will be a sukkah dedicated to Haimanot Kassau, who disappeared nearly three years ago. Her family will be there throughout the holiday.
