An Iranian intelligence agent holding a Russian passport was detained in Israel
In June 2026, through a joint effort by the police, the Ministry of Defense, and the General Security Service (Shin Bet), Behruz Sobirgon, a citizen of Tajikistan who also holds Russian citizenship, was arrested in Israel.
The man is suspected of committing serious crimes against national security, including working closely with Iranian intelligence and carrying out missions under its direction.
According to the investigation, Sobirgon’s criminal activities began in January 2026, when he established contact with an Iranian handler.
The most active phase of his work for enemy intelligence coincided with the period of the military conflict known as the “Roar of the Lion” war.
Law enforcement officials note that initially, the interaction appeared to be a routine job offer; however, the suspect quickly realized he was dealing with a representative of the Iranian intelligence services.
Despite this, Sobirgon knowingly continued to carry out illegal assignments, acting against Israel’s security interests.
According to investigators, the detainee’s tasks included recording and transmitting the impact sites of Iranian missiles during combat operations.
He also collected intelligence on strategic targets, including the coordinates of the Azrieli Towers, photographed the infrastructure of the Port of Haifa, and attempted to obtain images of a sensitive defense facility in the north of the country.
In addition to directly gathering intelligence, security forces accuse Sobirgon of actively recruiting others.
According to intelligence agencies, he attempted to recruit others to carry out missions that served the interests of Iranian entities and threatened Israel’s stability.
Israel struck Lebanon the day after the agreement was signed — Reuters
For their part, the Israeli military confirmed to Reuters that they carried out the strike using a drone. They explained that the target was an individual who posed a threat to their forces, without providing further details or evidence.
As a reminder, the Israeli military stated on June 22 that it would continue operations against militants in Lebanon and maintain a security zone in the south of the country if attacks continued from Lebanese territory—attacks which, according to them, pose a threat to national security.
Earlier, despite the declared ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, Israeli forces carried out strikes on Lebanese territory. At least five people were killed in the shelling, including a Lebanese army soldier. The sides once again exchanged harsh statements, and the ceasefire was effectively on the verge of collapse.
