Hungary is considering the resignation of the prosecutor general amid a scandal involving Oschadbank's cash collectors

Hungary’s Prosecutor General, who was appointed during Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s tenure, may soon resign.

According to Magyar, no additional political or legal steps are needed to replace the prosecutor general, since, according to his information, the official decided on his own to step down.

At the same time, he suggested that the decision may be linked to the high-profile case involving the detention of cash collectors from a Ukrainian state-owned bank.

When asked by journalists whether this referred to the scandal involving the detention of “Oschadbank” cash collectors, Magyar replied that it “may be related.”

This was stated by the country’s Prime Minister Péter Magyar, according to HVG

Prior to this, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Mályi commented on the findings of a local media investigation into the March events related to the operation against Ukrainian cash collectors and Oschadbank’s property. According to him, former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán may have been personally involved in the decision-making process.

The foreign ministers of Ukraine and Hungary, Andriy Sibiga and Anita Orbán, held their first in-person meeting on May 22. During the talks in Helsingborg, the parties agreed to hold a second round of expert-level consultations next week to further discuss bilateral issues.

Earlier, the Hungarian government commented on the massive attack by Russian drones on Zakarpattia, during which the region’s critical infrastructure was targeted. Budapest described the situation in the border region as extremely alarming and announced that it was preparing urgent countermeasures.
