The cost of container shipping from South Korea to the Middle East continued to rise amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region. The average cost of shipping a 40-foot container on this route rose by 14.5% compared to the previous month—to 8.78 million won, or about $6,217.
According to the Korea Herald, citing the Korea Customs Service, the figure has been rising since March. Customs data includes freight rates, commissions, and other expenses reported by local exporters.

Shipping costs have also risen on other routes. The average cost of shipping to the U.S. West Coast increased by 11.1% over the month, reaching 8.56 million won. Shipping to the U.S. East Coast rose by 14.4%, to 8.14 million won.
The largest monthly increase among the routes listed was recorded for the European Union. The cost of shipping a container to the EU rose by 36.4%, to 5.68 million won.
