The severe thunderstorms that struck southern Germany on July 16–17 resulted in one fatality, several injuries, and significant property damage.

The state of Baden-Württemberg was hit hardest by the storm. In the city of Karlsruhe, a tree uprooted by strong winds fell on a 60-year-old cyclist, who died. Several other people sustained minor injuries from falling branches.

Throughout the evening and night, emergency services received more than 250 calls. The storm caused trees to fall, streets to flood, and damage to cars, power lines, and building roofs.

In the town of Besigheim, lightning likely caused a fire in a building. In the Rems-Murr district, damage caused by trees falling on houses is preliminarily estimated at around 100,000 euros.

In addition, six traffic accidents occurred on the A8 highway in Swabia, caused by hydroplaning during heavy rainfall. According to preliminary estimates, the total property damage from the storm amounts to hundreds of thousands of euros.
