Video: Orbán was booed at a rally, and he threw a tantrum
Hungary’s pro-Russian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was unexpectedly booed at a rally in the city of Győr, which was previously considered one of the strongholds of his Fidesz party. In response, Orbán flew into a rage and accused those present of “working for Ukraine.”
This was reported by the Hungarian publication HVG.
Even before his speech began, hundreds of activists from the opposition party “Tisa” gathered in Győr’s central square. They chanted anti-government slogans and demanded explanations regarding corruption and the country’s economic situation.
The situation escalated when unknown groups of men in black clothing without identifying marks blocked the protesters’ path. Opposition leader Péter Magyar later called them “thugs” whom “Fidesz” allegedly brought in to intimidate citizens. According to Magyar, there was virtually no police presence at the scene, which created a risk of direct clashes.
Constant whistling and shouts from the opposition prevented the prime minister from delivering his speech at his usual calm pace. Orbán raised his voice several times, throwing a full-blown tantrum.
“You support the Ukrainian cause instead of standing with the Hungarians! You want a pro-Ukrainian government and want to give Hungarians’ money to Ukraine!” he declared.
Interestingly, the city of Győr has long supported Fidesz and has remained a reliable stronghold for Orbán and his party. But recent polls show a sharp drop in the number of “Orbán supporters” and a rise in the opposition’s popularity—40.5% for Fidesz and 36% of respondents in Győr for Tisza.
Recall that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán once again claimed that Ukraine was allegedly interfering in his country’s internal affairs and criticized the Ukrainian government and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
