Video: French Prime Minister Booed During Visit to Area Affected by Massive Wildfires
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu was booed during a visit to the town of Le Porge in the Gironde department, which was hardest hit by the wildfires.
Le Cornu arrived in Le Porge on Monday, August 17. As the prime minister’s car drove past people gathered near City Hall, the crowd shouted both “Bravo!” and “Shame on you!”
Some local residents had planned to greet the head of government with a silent protest to draw attention to the scale of the tragedy and the plight of those affected.
During the protest, residents dressed in black placed an empty chair in the middle of the crowd to symbolize the prime minister’s absence from direct communication with the victims.
On the chair, the demonstrators left a note reading: “Lekornu and his whole crew?”
Local residents expressed their disappointment at not being able to meet with the prime minister in person and ask him questions.
At the same time, Philippe de Gonville, mayor of the municipality of Légez-Cap-Ferret in the Gironde department, called on the government to provide assistance as quickly as possible to people who lost their homes and property in the fires.
In particular, he emphasized the need to provide psychological and medical support to those affected.

As a reminder, in the Landes department in southern France, a massive wildfire has already engulfed approximately 1,100 hectares of land. Due to the spread of the fire, authorities have evacuated more than 500 people from dangerous areas.
In the Gironde department of France, which has been suffering from massive wildfires for two weeks now, local residents warmly welcomed Ukrainian rescue workers. The Ukrainian Embassy in France shared footage showing the French people expressing their gratitude to the firefighters for their help in battling the wildfires.
Ukrainian rescue workers, who are helping their French colleagues fight the massive wildfires, rescued a young roe deer. The animal was found in the middle of a scorched forest with burned legs. The firefighters provided first aid and handed it over to local volunteers.
Forest fires in southern France have not only destroyed homes but also led to the discovery of an old cache of ammunition. In the municipality of Le Porge, about 400 shells and other ammunition from World War II were found. Some of them exploded right during the fire due to the high temperatures.
