Video: Heavy rains in eastern Spain have blocked roads; one person has died
Heavy downpours in eastern Spain have caused disruptions to transportation and road closures. The severe weather also claimed one life near Barcelona.
Torrential rains in the Valencian Community on Wednesday caused numerous road closures and accidents. In some municipalities, classes were canceled at schools.
In the city of Valencia itself, the metro and airport suspended operations due to the storm, and a soccer match was rescheduled because the stadium was flooded. On Thursday, metro and tram service resumed, but they may be running at shorter intervals than usual.

Near Barcelona, one person died as a result of the severe weather. Around 11 p.m., emergency services reported seeing a car fall into a stream.
In the morning, the driver’s body was found 500 meters from where the car, swept away by the floodwaters, had been discovered.
The Fire Department located the lifeless body of a man this morning who had been swept away by the flash flood in Olivella, in the Garraf region, after a witness alerted the police.
