The operation took place on April 26 under the orders of SOUTHCOM Commander General Francis Donovan. The strike was carried out by the Combined Task Force “Southern Spear.”
According to the military, the vessel was traveling along known drug trafficking routes and was linked to organizations that the U.S. classifies as terrorist.
Three people, whom the agency described as “drug terrorists,” were killed in the strike. There were no casualties among U.S. military personnel.
SOUTHCOM noted that this operation is part of a broader campaign to dismantle international drug cartels and their associated criminal networks.
U.S. President Donald Trump publicly expressed his support for Secretary of Defense Pete Hagset following the incident involving a second strike on an American vessel near Venezuela.
