Vitkoff and Kushner may travel to Moscow for talks

U.S. President’s Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner may visit Moscow in the near future. According to Russian media reports, the trip is related to the continuation of negotiations on a possible resolution to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Russian media are reporting on preparations for the visit, citing a diplomatic source. However, the exact dates of the trip have not yet been announced.

The potential visit would follow up on a phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Following that conversation, Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov stated that Trump’s representatives are ready to travel to Moscow. According to him, the parties have not yet determined a specific time for the meeting.

Sources note that preparations for the potential visit have been underway for several weeks. Earlier, Donald Trump stated that agreements to end the war had allegedly become “much closer than we can imagine.” At the same time, Moscow is taking a more cautious view of the prospects for negotiations.

In particular, a source involved in the negotiation process previously told the Financial Times that Russia’s position effectively leaves no room for serious dialogue. Thus, there remains a significant gap between Washington’s statements about possible progress and Moscow’s position. This is currently one of the main challenges for further diplomatic efforts, according to Russian media reports.
