Nigerian Navy finds reservoir containing 10,000 litres of suspected crude oil
The Nigerian Navy has discovered an excavated reservoir in the Oteghele area of Delta State containing approximately 10,000 litres of a substance that the military suspects to be crude oil of illicit origin.
Intelligence-led operation
According to Premium Times Nigeria, the reservoir was discovered on Wednesday by personnel of NNS DELTA during an operation to combat crude oil theft within their area of responsibility.
According to the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation was conducted after the Navy received information about suspected illegal oil-related activity in the area. He stated that the reservoir contained a substance suspected to be illicitly obtained crude oil.

Actions after the discovery
Folorunsho said that the reservoir and its contents were dealt with in accordance with established procedures. According to him, this was intended to prevent the substance from being further used for illegal activity.
The Navy representative described the operation as part of the fleet's ongoing efforts to deny criminal operators access to crude oil and dismantle the infrastructure used for its illegal exploitation.
