“‘Lost the Plot’: UK MPs Slam Blair’s Involvement in Trump’s Peace Plan”

Donald Trump’s plan to establish an international “Board of Peace” to oversee Gaza after a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has sparked controversy due to the proposed involvement of former UK prime minister Tony Blair. Blair, whose reputation was deeply damaged by his support for the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, was expected to join the supervisory body, but his inclusion has drawn backlash across both the Arab world and Britain’s Labour party.

According to the Financial Times

Critics described the idea as a “disgusting parody,” stressing that Blair, viewed as responsible for chaos in Iraq, cannot credibly act as a peacemaker in Gaza. Arab human rights activists condemned him as a “war criminal,” while many Labour MPs also rejected his role. Some Conservative politicians, however, argued Blair could make a “valuable contribution,” citing his past involvement in Northern Ireland’s peace process.

Despite the strong opposition, Blair’s allies and Trump’s administration maintain that the plan offers “the best chance” of ending two years of war and delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza. Still, doubts remain over the legitimacy of the initiative, with fears that Blair’s presence will further undermine trust among Palestinians and regional leaders.
