Word Unscrambler identifies the most searched slang words of 2026

The Word Unscrambler service analyzed Google search trends from January through August 2026 and identified the ten most frequently searched slang terms. The number combination “6-7” received the most queries — more than 1.6 million, The Hill reports.

The expression “6-7” has no established meaning. It is usually said while making a hand gesture that imitates weighing two options. According to the publication, such meaningless words are popular among members of Generation Alpha.

Ten most frequently searched terms

Second place went to the word chud, which originates from the title of the 1984 film “C.H.U.D.” The abbreviation stands for “cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers.” Today, children may use the word to mean “loser.”

The list also included rizz, a shortened form of the word “charisma.” Having “rizz” means that a person is attractive, charming, stylish, or knows how to make an impression. The expressions cap and no cap mean, respectively, a lie or major exaggeration, and truth or sincerity.

The sixth most popular group consisted of derivatives of mog: mogging, mogged, and framemog. According to Merriam-Webster, mog means to outdo or overshadow someone. The term framemog describes a situation in which a person with a larger and more muscular build, standing nearby, makes another person look smaller.

Meanings of other words on the list

The word gooning has meanings unsuitable for a broad audience, although in neutral usage it describes a person’s complete immersion in a particular activity. The word bop, which previously could mean a catchy song, is now also used as an insulting and often misogynistic term for a woman with many sexual partners.

The terms larping and larper derive from the abbreviation LARP, meaning live-action role-playing. Besides participating in such games, they can refer to pretending to be another person. “Aura” in modern slang means style, confidence, and coolness; “aura points” are supposedly earned through such traits, while aura farming is an attempt to deliberately create that impression.

The top ten is rounded out by sigma, the 18th letter of the Greek alphabet. In modern usage, it describes a self-confident, independent, and purposeful person who is contrasted with the “alpha male” as a loner.
