Western media outlets have shared video footage showing the aftermath of the Russian strike on the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv. Footage showing people trying to escape the burning building through windows was published by Reuters, The Washington Post, the New York Post, and the BBC.

The strike on the NAS building occurred on September 28 during a massive attack by Russian drones on Kyiv. A large fire broke out in the building after it was hit. People inside were forced to escape through the windows while rescue workers tried to contain the fire and search the premises.

CNN released footage showing employees climbing out of a second-floor window of the Academy of Sciences building during the fire. The network specifically noted that the strike targeted a scientific institution in the central part of the Ukrainian capital.

Reuters also highlighted the attack on the Academy of Sciences in the headline of its report on large-scale Russian strikes against Ukraine. According to the agency, two people were killed and another 24 were injured as a result of the attack on the Academy of Sciences building. Across Ukraine, at least 10 people were killed and more than 80 were injured as a result of the strikes on September 28.

Other major international media outlets also reported on the attack. The BBC noted that Russian drones struck residential buildings, offices, gas stations, and other civilian targets, including the National Academy of Sciences building in central Kyiv.

The Washington Post described the attack as part of a large-scale strike by Russian jet-powered drones on the capital. The publication highlighted not only the destruction but also President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s calls for international partners to increase pressure on Russia and provide Ukraine with additional air defense capabilities.

Footage of the attack on one of Ukraine’s leading scientific institutions became part of the international news agenda. Video footage of people fleeing a burning building allowed Western audiences to witness the consequences of the Russian strike on Kyiv firsthand through visual evidence from the scene, reminding the world that the war continues.
