Polish deputy minister to discuss access to €131 billion for defence — RMF24

In Poland, Deputy Minister of State Assets Konrad Gołota will take part in an RMF FM programme on 7 October, where participants will discuss whether Polish companies can apply for part of €131 billion for defence under the future European Union budget. As RMF24 reports, Piotr Salak’s interview with Gołota is scheduled for 18:02 local time.

Future competitiveness fund

The European Commission wants to make these funds available through a new European Competitiveness Fund. The broadcast will raise the question of whether Poland has a chance to become one of the largest recipients of funding and under what rules it should be allocated to strengthen the European, including Polish, defence industry.

The host will also ask whether EU funds should be spent exclusively on weapons produced in Europe. For Poland, this is linked to the fact that the country has in recent years purchased equipment from US and South Korean manufacturers. A separate topic will be the funding conditions under which Polish companies could compete for EU funds.

Exports and counter-drone measures

The programme will also discuss the future of the Polish Armaments Group and plans to increase exports of Polish weapons. Among potential markets for new contracts, RMF24 names Scandinavian and Baltic countries, Romania, India, Vietnam and North African states.

Another topic will be the expansion of PIT-RADWAR facilities and the SAN counter-drone programme. Gołota is expected to be asked about the stage of the programme’s implementation, the timeframe for when Polish industry will be able to deliver a ready system for combating drones, as well as its potential for export.
