Zelenskyy said when a meeting with Madyar might take place

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his readiness to meet with Hungary’s incoming Prime Minister Péter Magyar as soon as he is ready for talks.

The head of state made this statement during a joint briefing with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of building pragmatic and friendly relations between neighboring countries based on mutual respect and concrete agreements.

The Ukrainian leader expressed confidence in future cooperation, noting that there are good relations between the peoples of both countries, which must be preserved and developed. He also symbolically noted that the opposition’s election victory in Hungary coincided with Easter celebrations in Ukraine. The President added that Ukraine is ready to provide transportation for the Hungarian leader’s visit, regardless of the trip’s duration.

The change of government in Hungary and the defeat of Viktor Orbán’s party open a new window of opportunity to unblock important decisions within the EU, particularly regarding financial aid and sanctions against Russia. Péter Magyar had previously stated his intention to review policy toward Ukraine and strengthen ties with Brussels. Currently, the parties are laying the groundwork for the first official contacts following the inauguration of the new Hungarian government.

Péter Magyar, whose party won the parliamentary elections in Hungary, has begun drafting a strategic plan to restore relations with Brussels.
