Zelenskyy is working on a strategy for negotiating with Russia without U.S. assistance, according to Politico
According to Western media reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may be reconsidering his approach to negotiations with Russia without direct U.S. involvement. This is an attempt to adapt his diplomatic strategy to new conditions and shifts in international support. Turkey is being cited as a possible venue for the next round of talks. This is reported by Politico.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is likely working on an updated strategy for negotiations with Russia, which may not involve active participation by the United States.
According to journalists, over the past year, the Ukrainian side has actively sought to involve the U.S. administration in the peace negotiation process and to maintain its participation as a key mediator. However, as the article states, Kyiv is now reportedly reconsidering this approach. “Zelenskyy, who has diligently sought the support of U.S. President Donald Trump over the past year, appears to have ceased his attempts to persuade the U.S. to remain involved in negotiations with Russia to end the war,” Politico reports.
Instead, according to the publication, the Ukrainian side is becoming more cautious about Washington’s role in the future negotiation process. Kyiv is likely considering options under which the format of the dialogue could change and become more multilateral or regional.
It is also noted that Turkey, which has previously acted as a mediator in negotiations between the parties, could become one of the possible venues for future contacts with Russia.
Over the past week, Russia has launched massive strikes against Ukraine, using approximately 1,600 drones, nearly 1,100 guided aerial bombs, and several missiles. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the enemy is attempting to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defense systems and continues to attack civilian regions. The shelling has resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population.
