Zelenskyy Says US Security Guarantee Text Ready to Be Finalised with Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that an agreement on US security guarantees for Ukraine is essentially ready to be finalised at the highest level with President Donald Trump, following several days of negotiations in Paris.
Zelenskyy described the bilateral document as a cornerstone of any potential settlement to end the war, outlining assurances that Washington and other Western allies would support Ukraine if Russia were to invade again.
He said talks involving US and European teams addressed complex issues related to the future security framework, with Ukraine presenting its own proposals as part of the discussions.
The Ukrainian president added that Kyiv expects Washington to engage with Moscow and provide feedback on whether Russia is genuinely prepared to end the conflict. Any agreement reached with Ukraine is expected to be presented to Russia as part of broader diplomatic efforts.
Zelenskyy stressed that legally binding security guarantees are essential to deter future aggression, but acknowledged that specific details of the guarantees and allies’ response mechanisms have not yet been made public. He noted that Ukraine is still awaiting a clear answer on how partners would act if Russia attacked again.
