Zelenskyy met with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin in Kyiv
On July 23, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met in Kyiv with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, who had arrived in the Ukrainian capital on an official visit.
According to “European Truth,” Zelenskyy and Martin paid tribute to the fallen Ukrainian soldiers. The president noted that Ireland began its presidency of the Council of the EU out of respect for those who are defending Europe and the Ukrainian people.
“In the same spirit, Ireland has begun its presidency of the Council of the EU—out of respect for those who are defending all of Europe today, and for the Ukrainian people. We thank Ireland for this solidarity with Ukraine and our people,” Zelenskyy said.
The Irish prime minister’s visit comes three weeks after Zelenskyy’s trip to Dublin to mark the start of Ireland’s EU presidency. At that time, Martin announced that his country was already wrapping up an investigation into reports of exports to the Russian Federation—an aggressor state—of alumina, a raw material used in aluminum production. He also stated that Ukrainians deserve EU membership and expressed hope that difficulties with neighbors on this path would be overcome.
