A woman from Michigan didn't believe it at first, but then found out she had won $2.2 million
A resident of the Charlevoix County in Michigan (U.S.) initially thought the ticket scanner at the store was broken when it displayed an unusual message. It later turned out that the 66-year-old woman had won the $2.2 million grand prize in the Millionaire For Life lottery.
The American woman, who chose to remain anonymous, matched five white balls (03-15-16-24-28) during the drawing held on May 21. She purchased the winning ticket at a gas station in Manselona.
“I’ve been playing Millionaire For Life on and off since the game launched earlier this year. That day, I felt a strong urge to buy a ticket, so I went into the nearest store,” the winner said.
The next day, the woman decided to check the results. She scanned the ticket at the store, but a message appeared on the screen instructing her to contact the lottery office. Thinking the machine was just broken, she went to her car and checked the number combination on the official website.
When the American saw that the winning ticket had been sold in Mansfield and all five of her numbers matched, she realized the magnitude of her win. According to her, she started screaming with joy and did a happy dance right in the car.
Recently, the woman visited the lottery headquarters to collect her winnings. The rules of the game provided two options for receiving the prize:
- annual payments of $100,000 for at least 20 years;
- a lump-sum payment.
The winner chose the second option and took the entire amount at once. It totals $2.2 million. The Michigan resident plans to spend the money on a new house, a car, and a boat.
This win marks the first time in the history of Millionaire For Life that a player has received a prize with lifetime payments since the lottery launched on February 22 of this year. A ticket costs $5, and daily drawings offer the chance to win anywhere from $8 to a super prize of $1 million a year for life. To win the grand prize, you must match five main numbers and one bonus ball, the Michigan Lottery officially announced.
