Journalists have revealed the name of Putin's granddaughter, who had been kept hidden from the public for years

Katerina Tikhonova, who is said to be the youngest of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official daughters, and ballet choreographer Igor Zelensky have an eight-year-old daughter named Elsa. The girl was born in December 2017 and took her mother’s last name. 

According to the publication, the girl left Russia for the first time shortly before her second birthday. On November 11, 2019, she flew with her mother and father aboard a business jet operated by the German airline Air Hamburg, which now operates under the name VistaJet. On that flight, the family traveled to Munich, where Zelenskyy was working at the time. The trip lasted exactly two months.

Less than two years later, the girl traveled abroad again. This time, she flew to Croatia on a Bombardier Global 5000.

In both cases, the girl was registered in the border service database as Elsa Igorevna Tikhonova. Thus, she was given her mother’s surname—which is considered fictitious—but retained her patronymic from her father, Igor Zelensky.

The girl’s name matches that of the heroine of the popular Hollywood animated film *Frozen*—Princess Elsa. According to journalists, Kateryna Tikhonova is known for her love of American cinema. In particular, during her wedding to her first husband, Kirill Shamalov, she performed a song by the princess from the American animated film *Anastasia*.

Names in Putin’s Family

Vladimir Putin keeps his family members out of the public eye, which is why they use different last names—including some rather unusual ones. According to journalists, his sons with Alina Kabaeva were named Ivan and Vladimir Spiridonov. The surname is linked to the president’s grandfather, whose name was Spiridon. Putin’s out-of-wedlock daughter with Svetlana Kryvonohikh is named Luiza Rozova.

Katerina Tikhonova is the youngest of the Russian president’s official daughters. She heads the “Innopraktika” Foundation, which was conceived as a science and technology hub at Moscow State University with a budget of over 100 billion rubles.

In 2013, Tikhonova married Kirill Shamalov, the son of Putin’s friend and partner in the “Ozero” cooperative, Nikolai Shamalov. The marriage was short-lived. No later than 2017, Katerina Tikhonova began a relationship with Igor Zelensky, who at the time was the artistic director of the Bavarian State Ballet.
