A significant portion of the released report has been redacted. In particular, details of the police officer’s conversation with Brian Hickerson following the actress’s death, as well as the list of medications she was taking, have not been disclosed. According to the document, Zach Hickerson identified the unresponsive woman as his brother’s girlfriend. The police officer noted that Zach was very emotional while the paramedics were working, whereas Brian, as observed by the officer, showed no emotion until the official declaration of death.

Panettiere and Hickerson had been in an on-and-off relationship for several years. In 2020, Hickersson faced several charges of aggravated assault. He did not contest two counts of causing harm to a spouse or partner, served a short time in jail, and received four years of probation. The court also ordered him to attend anger management classes and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Recently, a Los Angeles court denied Hickerson’s motion to have his conviction reclassified as a misdemeanor.
