New potatoes have seen a sharp price increase: prices have nearly doubled in just a few days

Prices for new potatoes have risen sharply on the Ukrainian market. Since the beginning of June, the cost of domestic produce has increased on average from 42 to 75 UAH per kilogram.

Currently, Ukrainian new potatoes are selling for 70–85 UAH/kg. At the same time, imported potatoes have also become more expensive, but to a much lesser extent—from 45 to 50 UAH/kg. Their price ranges from 45 to 55 UAH/kg.

Market participants attribute the price increase to weather conditions. Due to the rains, the volume of produce entering the market has decreased, which has led to rising prices.

Meanwhile, potatoes from last year’s harvest have remained stable in price for over two weeks. On average, they are sold for 10 UAH per kilogram, although individual offers range from 9.5 to 14 UAH.

It is noteworthy that on June 1, Ukrainian new potatoes became cheaper than imported ones for the first time this season. At the end of May, their average price was about 60 UAH/kg, and in the middle of the month, it reached 80 UAH/kg.
