Grain prices in Ukraine and around the world have moved in different directions
The Ukrainian grain market showed mixed trends this week. Feed wheat rose significantly in price, while food-grade wheat, corn, and sunflower seeds fell in price. On global exchanges, the situation was more uniform—both wheat and corn became cheaper.
According to AgroTender, the average purchase price of feed wheat in Ukraine rose by approximately 950 UAH per metric ton, or 16%. The most significant increase occurred in the south and in port regions—by approximately 2,000 UAH per metric ton. In the center and north, grain prices also rose, while in the west, prices remained virtually unchanged.
Food-grade wheat, on the other hand, lost an average of about 300 UAH per metric ton. At the same time, its price rose slightly in the ports, while prices fell in the central, northern, and western regions.
Corn prices fell by approximately 750 UAH per metric ton over the week. The sharpest decline was recorded in the south—about 2,600 UAH. Meanwhile, prices rose in the central and northern regions, while they fell slightly in the west.
Sunflower seeds also continued to fall in price—by an average of about 250 UAH per metric ton, or 1.3%. Prices fell in most regions, although in ports, sunflower seeds actually rose slightly in price.
On global markets, the trend was more uniform. On the Chicago Board of Trade, soft wheat fell by $11 per metric ton to $269, while corn dropped $4 to $209 per metric ton. On Euronext in Paris, wheat fell by $7 to $282 per metric ton, and corn by $6 to $305.
Thus, European prices remain higher than U.S. prices: the difference is $13 per metric ton for wheat and $96 for corn.
