BMW iX3 outperformed Mercedes GLC and Volvo EX60 in highway test — InsideEVs
On a motorway north of Oslo, Norway, the electric BMW iX3 showed the lowest energy consumption and the greatest calculated range compared with the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric and Volvo EX60. The test was conducted at a target speed of 120 km/h, temperatures between 14 and 17°C, and mostly dry weather, InsideEVs reports.
Energy consumption
All vehicles started with their batteries at 90% charge and were driven in the most economical mode. The drivers switched cars and positions in the convoy, while the return trip along the same route was intended to reduce the impact of elevation changes and wind.
The BMW iX3 recorded energy consumption of 19.4 kWh per 100 km. The Mercedes GLC Electric used 20.3 kWh per 100 km, while the Volvo EX60 used 21.1 kWh per 100 km. Thus, the BMW's recorded energy consumption was approximately 4% lower than that of the Mercedes and 8% lower than that of the Volvo.

Calculated range
The BMW iX3 also had the largest usable battery capacity among the three models compared — 108.7 kWh. After accounting for 3% losses from heating and discharge, its calculated range was 544 km. The figure was 449 km for the Mercedes GLC Electric and 419 km for the Volvo EX60.
The test involved the Volvo EX60 P10 version with a 91 kWh battery, rather than the top-end P12 equipped with a 112 kWh battery. Based on the recorded energy consumption, the EX60 P12 could have travelled 515 km, which is still 29 km less than the iX3 result. At the same time, the drivers rated the Volvo highest for motorway comfort, particularly its quiet cabin and smooth ride. The EX60's energy consumption figure may have been affected by its 22-inch wheels, whereas the BMW and Mercedes were fitted with 20-inch wheels.
