Rolls-Royce unveils Phantom Hummingbird with abalone shell inlay
Rolls-Royce has unveiled the one-of-a-kind Phantom Hummingbird, based on the Phantom Extended version. The car was commissioned by a client as a gift for his wife, and its main feature is the brand’s first marquetry made from abalone shells.
As Motor1 reports, Rolls-Royce craftsmen spent more than nine months developing the technology for processing and installing this material. Abalone is fragile, and its shade changes depending on the viewing angle, which distinguishes it from wood veneer and mother-of-pearl. The final arrangement of the decorative elements took 45 hours.
Hummingbird theme in the interior
The hummingbird motif was used in the trim of the folding tables for rear passengers and the Rear Waterfall panel. Each bird image consists of 53 separate shell fragments arranged so that the wings reflect light differently. The floral ornament contains 84 fragments.

Rolls-Royce explained its choice of the hummingbird by saying that it symbolizes joy, resilience and the ability to find beauty in every moment. Work on the personalized car was coordinated by the Private Office Dubai division, which handles the brand’s bespoke orders.
Body finish and dimensions
The Phantom Hummingbird’s body received a two-tone Wildberry and White Sands paint finish. A hummingbird repeating the theme of the interior inlay was hand-painted on it. The Phantom Extended is 235.5 inches long, with a wheelbase of 148.5 inches. The base price of the Phantom Extended starts at about $600,000, excluding this level of personalization.
