Mayor Vitali Klitschko aims to raise fares on the metro, buses, trolleybuses, trams, and the funicular by several times at once.

In addition to critical comments on the city administration’s website, a petition opposing the new fares gathered the required 6,000 signatures in less than a day.

In Lviv, public transit fares were raised on May 16, and now prices depend on the payment method and can reach 30 hryvnias per trip. Authorities attribute the fare increase to rising costs of fuel and vehicle maintenance.
