A Kyiv resident hired someone as a janitor in exchange for a $4,000 bribe
In the capital, law enforcement officers detained a participant in a scheme who, for $4,000, promised a conscript that he would arrange a fictitious job as a janitor to secure a deferment. According to the prosecutor’s office, fictitious service in a volunteer unit was also offered as part of the scheme.
Under the procedural guidance of the Obolon District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv, a 41-year-old resident of the Kyiv region was notified of suspicion for offering, in exchange for money, to arrange fictitious service in a volunteer unit for a conscript, followed by fictitious employment to secure a deferment.
It was established that the man was looking for clients willing to pay for employment in order to secure a draft deferment. The scheme initially involved the conscript’s fictitious enlistment in a Territorial Community Volunteer Unit (TCVU), followed by a promise of fictitious employment as a janitor at a municipal enterprise in the Kyiv region. The janitor position qualifies for military deferment, so the price for such employment was $4,000.

Law enforcement officials documented the receipt of a deposit and documents for employment, according to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
