A petition calling for the restoration of the Lukyanivsky Market in Kyiv has reached the required number of signatures

A petition calling for the immediate restoration of Lukyanivsky Market, which was damaged by Russian shelling on May 24, 2026, has gathered the required number of signatures for consideration by the city authorities. The initiative must now be reviewed by the relevant city agencies.

The author of the petition emphasizes that this historic market is not merely a place of commerce, but an important part of the capital’s living history and a key element of the district’s social life.

The petition specifically calls for:

  • to conduct a prompt assessment of the damage and publish a plan for the market’s restoration;
  • to allocate funding for reconstruction from the city budget and international aid;
  • to provide support for entrepreneurs and workers who have lost their jobs;
  • preserve the market’s historical and social function, preventing its demolition or replacement with other commercial facilities;
  • to begin restoration work as soon as possible.

This is stated on the official website of the Kyiv City Council.

As a reminder, Klitschko called the 30-hryvnia fare for travel in Kyiv too low.

Viktor Mykhailovych Vyhovskyi, head of the Kyiv Metro municipal enterprise, explained what the actual cost of transportation consists of and why the current fare is significantly lower than the cost of production, which is determined by expenses for electricity, salaries, and staff shortages.

The Kyiv City Council was unable to pass a resolution that would have allowed negotiations to begin with international partners regarding a loan for the construction of the metro line to Troieschyna.
