A Kyiv resident was scammed twice in a scheme involving the removal of a person from a wanted list and a fake reservation

In the capital, law enforcement officials exposed two men who promised a conscript that they would resolve his issues with the Military Registration and Enlistment Office and secure him a job at a critical infrastructure facility. The two men involved in the scheme have been notified that they are suspected of abuse of influence for extorting a total of $22,000 for services that were never provided

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

One of the suspects assured the victim that he had connections at the Territorial Recruitment Center and extorted $5,500 to have him removed from the wanted list; however, the man was later placed on the wanted list a second time, and the suspects took a similar amount again. Additionally, the suspects demanded $11,000 for a job placement reservation, which fell through after the company lost its critical infrastructure status. The second accomplice coordinated the collection of documents and the process of registering the “client.”

During searches, a “brigadier general” ID card issued by a public organization was seized from one of the detainees. Currently, preventive measures are being determined for both suspects, and the investigation is identifying other individuals who may have fallen victim to similar schemes. Law enforcement officials emphasize that the suspects merely pretended to have real influence over government agencies.

As a reminder, the organizer of a scheme to smuggle draft dodgers for $12,000 was detained in Kyiv.

Additionally, an employee of the TCC in Chernihiv Oblast was detained for bribery.
