The driver of the car involved in a crash in Kyiv that left four people dead was found to have committed 39 traffic violations

A fatal traffic accident in Kyiv claimed the lives of four people, and it turned out that the driver at fault had a record of 39 traffic violations, most of which were for speeding. Police believe that such consistent reckless driving could have been a clear warning sign that was ignored.

In Kyiv, authorities are investigating a horrific accident that occurred on June 5 and claimed the lives of four people, including a child, while three others suffered serious injuries, and this case once again raises the acute issue of systematic traffic violations that have accumulated over the years without any real consequences for drivers.

This was reported by Oleksiy Biloshitsky, First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department, who noted that the Mercedes-Benz C300 involved in the fatal accident had 39 recorded traffic violations, most of which were for speeding. According to him, just last year this vehicle was cited 18 times for violations and was also involved in one accident without injuries in March of this year, which, in the police’s view, indicates a recurring pattern of dangerous behavior on the road.

Biloshitsky emphasized that such cases call into question the effectiveness of the current penalty system, since even a fine of 340 hryvnias does not always deter drivers who systematically ignore the rules. “Is a 340-hryvnia fine enough to ensure the offender doesn’t do this again in the future?” he asked, noting that many countries have mechanisms in place to address systemic violations, not just isolated incidents.

He added that regularly ignoring traffic rules should be seen as a sign of potential danger to other road users, and in such cases, the state must have tools to restrict or revoke a person’s right to drive. “Our country also needs such a mechanism,” Biloshitsky emphasized, commenting on the need for changes in approaches to controlling dangerous drivers.

According to police data, over a million traffic violations have been recorded in Ukraine since the start of the year, and over 1.7 million citations have been issued by automated systems, which once again underscores the scale of the problem on the roads and the systematic disregard for traffic rules. Oleksiy Biloshitsky, First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department, reported this on Facebook.

Police have detained the driver of a Mercedes who caused a fatal traffic accident in Kyiv on Friday. Four people were killed in the accident, and several others were injured.

An investigation is underway in Kyiv into the horrific accident on Chokolivsky Boulevard, where a Mercedes crashed into an underground pedestrian crossing at high speed. Four people were killed in the tragedy, including a 12-year-old boy.
