Kyiv Is Turning Into a Frontline City as Russian Attacks Intensify – The Guardian

Due to the intensification of Russian strikes, Kyiv is turning into a frontline city that has been subjected to the heaviest attacks since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Airstrikes on the capital are causing civilian deaths and injuries almost daily.

Over the past week, Russian missiles and jet-powered UAVs have struck residential buildings, offices, warehouses, and data centers throughout Kyiv. The air campaign aims to undermine the resilience of the population and damage Ukraine’s economy, and Monday’s double strike raised concerns about the ability to protect even the most heavily guarded parts of the city.

The enemy has also changed its tactics for deploying “Shaheds,” beginning to launch them during daylight hours. The new jet-powered models fly faster and are more difficult to intercept, so Ukraine is currently working to develop appropriate countermeasures.

In addition, Russia continues to strike Ukrainian border crossings, which recently forced Poland to issue a warning about a possible airstrike in the Lublin region. These actions represent an attempt by Russia to demonstrate its readiness for further escalation amid a lack of progress in U.S. efforts to end the war.
