In Kyiv, 85% of skin cancer cases are detected during preventive screenings

Most malignant skin tumors in the capital’s medical facilities are diagnosed through screenings, confirming the effectiveness of timely examinations.

This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Health. Currently, 4,255 patients with melanoma are under the care of Kyiv oncologists, with the largest group of patients (30%) being people aged 70–80.

The incidence rate remains stable: 303 new cases were detected in 2024, 308 in 2025, and 34 new patients were recorded in the first quarter of 2026. Despite the success of early diagnosis, 7–8% of cases are still detected at an advanced stage. Kyiv City State Administration Deputy Head Volodymyr Prokopiv emphasized that the city’s main goal is to minimize advanced-stage cases by expanding screening opportunities.

From May 11 to 17, Kyiv is hosting a week of free skin cancer screenings, during which residents can have their moles checked without a referral at Hospital No. 4 on Saksahanskoho Street. Tetyana Mostipan, Director of the relevant department, urged Kyiv residents not to have growths removed by cosmetologists without consulting an oncodermatologist. The Kyiv City Clinical Oncology Center on Verkhovynna Street is also accepting patients for detailed examinations and treatment.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine approved an updated list of medications and medical devices eligible for reimbursement through public funds.

Australian IT specialist Paul developed an experimental mRNA vaccine to treat cancer in his dog Rozy, using the ChatGPT and Google AlphaFold neural networks. The animal was diagnosed with cancer in 2024, after which the owner decided to try to find a possible solution on his own using modern technologies.
