Kyiv plans to create 13,000 charging stations for electric vehicles

Preparations are underway in the capital for a major expansion of the electric vehicle infrastructure. City authorities are compiling a list of 6,500 locations where charging stations may be installed in the future. The goal of the project is to create approximately 13,000 charging points for electric vehicles throughout the city.

As Konstantin Usov, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration for Local Self-Government, explained during the “Electrospektiva-2026” forum, the capital is currently reviewing information on approximately 6,500 potential locations. In the future, charging infrastructure for approximately 13,000 electric vehicle parking spaces could be installed there.

According to the official, the city is developing a transparent mechanism for the development of this infrastructure. Once the analysis is complete, all locations are planned to be allocated for the installation of charging stations through open auctions in the “Prozorro.Sales” system.

“In Kyiv, there will be no ‘first come, first served’ principle. All locations will be allocated through open auctions, which guarantees equal opportunities for all market participants and transparency of the process,” noted Kostyantyn Usov.

The Kyiv City State Administration reported that to prepare the network, the municipal enterprise “Kyivtransparkservice,” which operates the parking sector in the capital, is sending requests to the owners of electrical networks, specifically to DTEK, as well as to other enterprises and institutions.

Currently, data is being collected and analyzed regarding available capacity, connection capabilities, and other technical parameters necessary to identify suitable locations for charging stations.

“We want the network to develop not haphazardly, but based on technical calculations and actual demand. That is why we are currently gathering all the necessary information to make management decisions and attract investors in the future. We strive for the harmonious development of this environment so that the charging infrastructure in Kyiv develops quickly, systematically, and meets the city’s needs,” added Usov.

After the preparatory phase is complete, the city will compile a list of locations to be offered to investors for the installation of charging stations.

The Kyiv City State Administration notes that the project is aimed at developing electric mobility, attracting investment in urban infrastructure, and implementing modern European approaches to organizing the capital’s transportation space.

This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration’s press service.
