In the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, a Russian Kh-101 missile, which struck a residential high-rise building on the night of May 14, pierced the building from top to bottom and detonated on the lowest floor. According to a government official, while clearing the rubble, rescuers found missile debris in the basement. It was the explosion in this part of the building that caused extensive damage to the reinforced concrete structures and significant consequences for the building.
This was reported by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.
According to the official, rescuers found fragments of the enemy missile on the lowest level of the building while clearing the rubble.
“Rescuers found fragments of an X-101 missile in the basement. That is, it entered the building, exploded there, and consequently, the reinforced concrete structure was lifted and then collapsed the entire building,” the Minister of Internal Affairs noted.

The fact that the explosion’s epicenter was in the basement explains why the reinforced concrete floors were thrown upward, resulting in the instantaneous collapse of an entire building section. This significantly complicated the work of rescue workers, who had to clear over 3,000 cubic meters of hazardous debris by hand and with the help of heavy equipment.
