Two members of the Territorial Defense Forces will stand trial in Kyiv in connection with the death of a conscript

In the capital, two servicemen from the Territorial Defense Forces and the Special Forces will stand trial in a case involving the beating of a conscript that led to his death. This was announced by Ruslan Nemyrivskyi, head of the Darnytsia Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense Affairs in the Central Region. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation, and the indictment has already been submitted to the court.

“In May 2025, while mobilized citizens were being transported from one of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s training centers to an assembly point in Kyiv, one of them began to disrupt the peace on the bus and clash with representatives of the TCC and SP,” the head of the Darnytsia Special Prosecutor’s Office told Interfax-Ukraine in a statement on Friday.

According to Nemyrivsky, subsequently, one of the servicemen, who was tasked with ensuring the return of the mobilized citizens to the assembly point, used physical violence against this man.

“While the vehicle was in motion, he repeatedly struck the victim with his hands and feet, primarily to the head and chest, inflicting bodily injuries that led to death,” he added.

At the same time, as the head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office noted, the deputy head of one of the Regional Territorial Centers for Recruitment and Social Support, who was on the bus and served as the group leader during the transport of the mobilized men, took no measures to stop his subordinate’s unlawful actions, even though he had a real opportunity to do so.

“Upon arrival at the assembly point, medical personnel pronounced the mobilized man dead,” Nemyrivsky noted.

Currently, as reported by the head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, indictments against the serviceman from the Kyiv Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Office and the deputy head of one of Kyiv’s Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Offices have been sent to court. The military personnel are charged with abuse of authority resulting in serious consequences, committed under martial law; intentional infliction of serious bodily injury resulting in the victim’s death (Part 5 of Article 426-1, Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and intentionally failing to stop a criminal offense committed by a subordinate, which resulted in serious consequences under martial law (Part 4 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), respectively.

Nemyrivsky clarified that since their arrest, the defendants have been subject to pretrial detention without the possibility of bail.

The head of the Darnytsia Special Prosecutor’s Office emphasized: “The presence of a uniform, weapons, or special powers does not exempt one from the obligation to obey the law. Martial law does not negate the value of human life and does not grant the right to cruelty or impunity. Anyone who abuses their authority and uses violence will be held accountable regardless of their position or status.”

Nemyrivsky added that the serviceman of the RTCC and SP faces imprisonment for up to 12 years, and the deputy head of the RTCC and SP faces up to 10 years.

Earlier in Lviv, an attack was carried out on a TCC service vehicle.

In Kharkiv, a scheme to illegally smuggle conscripts abroad was uncovered, involving a TCC employee and a former “Berkut” officer. According to the investigation, they promised to arrange travel to Slovakia for $18,000.

The SBU detained the head of the Medical Examination Commission in Kropyvnytskyi for selling disability certificates.
