A scheme to transfer people to the rear for $3,500 was uncovered in Kyiv

Kyiv police have detained a 25-year-old resident of the Kyiv region who, according to the investigation, offered a military servicemember illegal assistance in transferring to a rear support unit in exchange for $3,500. The Kyiv Police reported this on May 18.

 

The illegal activities of the 25-year-old Kyiv region resident were documented by investigators from the Obolon Police Department in collaboration with operatives from the National Police’s Internal Security Department and under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense in the Central Region.

The investigation established that the suspect demanded an illegal benefit from the serviceman in exchange for facilitating his transfer to a unit stationed in the capital. He estimated the cost of such a “service” at $3,500.

According to the agreement, the funds were to be transferred in installments: $2,000 in advance, and the remaining $1,500 after the soldier began service in the rear unit. Law enforcement officers detained the suspect in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators informed the suspect of his status as a suspect under Part 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—aiding and abetting a public official in obtaining an unlawful benefit by committing, in the interests of the person providing the unlawful benefit, any act using the official’s position, committed by a group of persons acting in concert. The penalty under this article provides for up to ten years of imprisonment.

Earlier in the Svyatoshynsky district of Kyiv, an unknown driver opened fire, after which the police launched a special operation to locate him.
