In Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a 38-year-old man who attacked a woman near a drinking fountain in the Dniprovskyi district and attempted to commit unlawful acts of a sexual nature. According to the police, the attacker, who shows signs of mental illness, was detained and sent to a specialized medical facility. He will remain under medical supervision for the duration of the investigation.
A Kyiv resident contacted the Dnipro Police Department and reported that an unknown man had attacked her and attempted to rape her. An investigative team from the local police department and a patrol police crew immediately arrived at the scene.
Speaking with law enforcement officers, the victim said that in the evening she had left her home to get water from a nearby drinking fountain. At some point, the woman felt an unknown man approach her from behind, cover her mouth with his hand, and, tearing off her clothes, attempt to rape her. However, she managed to break free and escape from the attacker.
Police detained the 38-year-old assailant near the crime scene in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. It was established that the man has mental health disorders, in connection with which a preventive measure in the form of placement in a medical facility was applied to him under a special procedure.
During the investigation, a comprehensive psychological and psychiatric examination was ordered to determine the suspect’s mental capacity.
Under the procedural supervision of the Dnipro District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv, investigators informed the detainee of his suspicion under Part 3 of Article 15 and Part 1 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—attempted rape.
