The capital continues to implement a differentiated approach to the maintenance of green spaces, combining traditional lawn mowing with the preservation of natural vegetation.
According to the Kyiv City State Administration and the Kyivzelenbud Municipal Enterprise, the number of areas with restricted mowing has increased to 119 this year. Their total area is 251 hectares. For comparison, in 2025 there were 91 such locations covering an area of over 234 hectares.
City officials explain that natural meadows help preserve biodiversity, provide habitats for pollinating insects, help retain moisture in the soil, and reduce overheating of areas during heat waves.
At the same time, the capital is not abandoning the practice of mowing grass entirely. Areas for limited mowing are determined on a case-by-case basis, taking into account their purpose, safety, and the needs of residents.
The Kyiv City State Administration notes that this approach allows for combining the comfort of the urban environment with modern environmental practices and increasing Kyiv’s resilience to the effects of climate change.
