The Kyiv City State Administration provided an update on the status of the eight-hryvnia train tickets purchased following the price increase

UA NEWS 22 June 2026 22:13
The Kyiv City State Administration provided an update on the status of the eight-hryvnia train tickets purchased following the price increase

All previously purchased rides at the 8 hryvnia fare will remain valid on the capital’s public transportation system until September 14, 2026.

City officials have assured passengers that trips purchased before the planned fare increase will not expire immediately after the price change. For two months following the expected fare increase, Kyiv residents and visitors will be able to freely use their pre-purchased tickets.

When this transition period ends, any unused travel credits on transit cards will not be lost—the system will automatically convert them into their cash equivalent and credit these funds to the passenger’s e-wallet balance.

Currently, the relevant departments of the Kyiv City State Administration are in the final stages of reviewing the proposals and comments received during the recent public discussion of the draft regulatory act. After a detailed analysis of the results, the document will be submitted for approval in accordance with the procedure established by law. In addition, city authorities have confirmed plans to launch a new type of travel pass on August 1—a single electronic ticket costing 60 hryvnias. It will allow for an unlimited number of free transfers between the metro, buses, trolleybuses, trams, and the funicular within 90 minutes of the first validation.

This is stated in a response from the Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Economy and Investments to a request from Suspilne.

The Kyiv City Council of Trade Unions has agreed to a phased increase in public transportation fares in the capital. Instead of the 30 hryvnias per trip planned by the Kyiv City State Administration, the trade unions propose initially setting the fare at 20 hryvnias and postponing any further increases for at least half a year.

Discussions continue in Kyiv regarding a moratorium on fare increases for public transportation. During the most recent session of the Kyiv City Council, some parliamentary factions—“UDAR” and “European Solidarity”—did not support the relevant vote, which effectively complicated the adoption of a decision to maintain current fares.

Klitschko called the 30-hryvnia fare for travel in Kyiv too low.
