Funding for culture in Ukraine has increased by 40%
In 2026, government funding for the cultural sector in Ukraine increased by nearly 40% compared to the previous year.
This significant increase in budget allocations was officially announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna during her speech at the international festival “Book Arsenal.”
According to the official, this positive change clearly demonstrates the state’s growing recognition of the strategic role of culture in today’s reality.
At the same time, the increase in spending on the humanities places additional responsibility on the relevant ministry and its subordinate institutions to ensure the rational and effective use of these funds.
Tetyana Berezhna separately emphasized the importance of state support for artistic and historical institutions.
“Culture is what allows us to recognize one another, remember our past, and envision the future. It is a system of values that unites us and distinguishes us from other nations. That is precisely why investments in culture are investments in Ukraine’s stability and security,” she added.
In total, the 2026 state budget allocated 16.1 billion hryvnias for the development of the cultural sector. Specifically, 7.4 billion hryvnias were allocated directly to ensure the full-scale operation of the Ministry of Culture.
Four billion hryvnias were allocated for the implementation of the new large-scale program “1,000 Hours of Ukrainian Content,” which later changed its official name to “Tysyachovesna.”
