Xbox will publish Hideo Kojima’s Physint after PlayStation’s withdrawal
The National from the UAE reported that Xbox will publish the upcoming action-spy game Physint by Japanese game designer Hideo Kojima. This came after PlayStation Studios withdrew from the project in mid-June.
According to Kojima, Kojima Productions unexpectedly received a notice from PlayStation Studios that Physint had been cancelled. The studio then spent three months looking for a new partner for the project. Sony separately confirmed that it was ending its cooperation with Kojima Productions on the game.
New publisher
Kojima called Physint an important project for both himself and Kojima Productions. He said that the studio decided to continue developing the game and found a partner in Xbox that shares its vision of the future. Microsoft is already collaborating with Kojima Productions on the horror game OD.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said that the company was honored to become the project’s new partner. According to her, Kojima’s drive to challenge established approaches aligns with the creativity Xbox wants to support.

Return to the genre
Physint will mark Kojima’s return to the action-spy genre after his departure from Konami in 2015. He created the Metal Gear series and later led the development of Metal Gear Solid. After founding the independent Kojima Productions, the studio’s main releases were games in the Death Stranding series.
Physint was first announced in January 2024 during the PlayStation State of Play presentation as a new intellectual property being developed in cooperation with Sony Interactive Entertainment. At the time, Kojima described it as a next-generation spy game intended to blur the line between video games and cinema through advanced technology.
At Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary event in 2025, it was announced that Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok, and Minami Hamabe had joined the cast of Physint. Xbox and Kojima Productions also plan to collaborate on film and television projects. The platforms on which Physint will be released and its release date have not yet been announced.
